RECRUITMENT, SELECTION AND ADMISSION PROCESS
The University's Recruitment, Selection and Admission process is under the Marketing and Admission Department, and is closely coordinated with the Student Personnel Services. The Marketing/Admission Director is in-charge of the enormous task of increasing and maintaining a good number of students in the university.
Just like any other College/University, UPHSL aggressively advertise for promotion. This can be observed in the printed advertisements of the University (tarpaulins, brochures, posters, etc.) Multi-media presentations are also made, and radio/TV advertisements are also on the way.
However, UPHSL believes that the Marketing Strategy of the university should not only be focused on the students who will enroll in the schools, the parents and even the whole communities that will help influence the students to enroll in the university. Moreover, UPHSL believes in a more personal marketing strategy: Partnership. It is in building partnerships that we truly promote the university. In this concept, we always want to give impression that the university is sincerely concerned not only with the students, but also with the parents, schools, and the whole community as well.
This concept is clearly manifested in the way we recruit, select, and admit students.
Stages of Admission
Stage 1: Recruitment/Promotion Stage
- School Campaign/Career Orientation
One of the main works of the Marketing Department is to conduct career orientations
in different schools. But school campaign of the University does not happen in the career orientation itself. It starts early. Since we see the community, the parents, and the school as partners, the Marketing Department goes personally to the schools to schedule the career orientation. While it is certainly easier to do the scheduling over the phone, the Marketing Department decides to do it that way so as to establish better rapport with the school officials.
When the date for school campaign and rapport is established, the Marketing Department returns to the school to conduct Career Orientation to the 4 th Year Students. Orientation includes dissemination of information regarding the University's Academic Programs, Scholarship Grants, Facilities, Roster of the Faculty and even Job Opportunities for its alumni. Free Entrance Examination is also conducted in the school visited.
Stage 2: Selection of Students
A week (or sooner) after the exam is conducted in a school, the Marketing Department returns once again to the school to deliver personally the examination results to the students and to the Principal. Personal letters are given to the students to inform them about their examination result. Brochures are included in the individual letters to help the student gain more information in a course they are interested in.
Students are categorized according to their reexamination results. Those who passed are automatically qualified to enroll in the university and to apply for different scholarships and/or College Advance Credit Program. They are classified as Category A Students. Those who do not pass (obtained a grade of below 75) will be classified as Category B. They are given the opportunity to enroll for a semester on a probationary status. After a semester, the student will be evaluated by the Dean and the SPS Office. Should the student show no failing grade and any bad record, he/she will be considered a regular student in the next semester.
Various Scholarships are available in the University, and any student who will qualify (has passed the entrance exam and has passed all the requirements) may apply for any of them. Selection of scholars is lead by Dr. Pino of the SPS and Dr. Caguia of the College of Education.
Any walk-in students may also inquire and take the University's Entrance Examination. The SPS Office is always available for the students'/parents' inquiry. They may get the examination result on the same day, with the list of requirements for admission.
Stage 3: Admission of Students
For Transferees/New Students:
Student applicants will have to take the entrance examination conducted by the SPS. If they already took and passed it, requirements shall be submitted and evaluated. After the interview by the Guidance Counselor, they can already enroll in the university.
For Old Students:
After submitting their signed clearance, old students of the university can enroll directly in their respective department. |
