The College of Nursing of the University of Perpetual Help System in Biñan, Laguna, opened its doors in 1976. It first offered the three-year course of Graduate in Nursing (GN). The introduction of a two-year Pre-Nursing course, which consisted mostly of humanities and social science subjects, came about to better prepare the GN graduates for a bachelor's degree program. In the following year, 1977, a five-year program for the Bachelor of Science in Nursing replaced GN course. The clamor for reforms in all aspects of human endeavor paved the way for a compact (four years) but enriched community-oriented curriculum in 1984 that produced its first graduates four years later. The following year at the outset of the school- year, the then Minister of Education, Culture and Sports, Jaime C. Laya, granted government recognition (No. 182, s. 1985) to Perpetual Help College of Laguna, for the four-year course in Nursing (BSN).

The Association of Deans of the Philippine Colleges of Nursing (ADPCN) assumes the responsibility of monitoring its rank in terms of proper implementation of policies and of updating the standards of Nursing Education throughout the country.

Hence in May 1992, the ADPCN implemented guidelines of DECS order no. 45, S. 1992. This curriculum took effect in school year 1993-1994. In addition, the new Philippine Nursing Law, R.A. 7164, regulated admission of students in Nursing, otherwise known as the “upper 40%” requirement from general secondary course.

In order to update the general education curriculum and to make it more responsive to the demands of the next millennium, the Commission on Higher Education (CMO) issued memorandum no. 59, s. 1996. This directive was issued for the implementation of the same to all baccalaureate programs in all higher education in the Philippines . In accordance with R.A. 7722, and for the purpose of rationalizing Nursing Education in the country due to the demands of global competitiveness, CMO no. 10, s. 1998, was issued for its updated policies and standards.

Thus, the curriculum of 1997-1998 emerged and was subsequently implemented. The first batch graduated in the year 2001 and another in 2002. Barely two years later, CHED issued another memorandum (No. 27, s. 1998) for a two-year curriculum for all health and related sciences. This is mandated to colleges and universities with recognized health programs. Completion of such in two years shall equip the graduate with the appropriate competence to function as a primary health care provider. Furthermore, the graduate is awarded a certificate in Associate in Health Science Education (AHSE). The College has reconfigured its curriculum and consequently implemented the same in the academic year 1999 2000.

Once again CHED issued memorandum no. 30, series of 2001. This showed updates on the policies and standards of Nursing Education particularly along the areas of research, community involvement and curriculum enrichment. Likewise, it emphasized on faculty development program so that the competence of its faculty shall have been enhanced. Theoretical foundation and presentation of concepts with that of the related learning experiences (RLE) must be congruent to allow concretization of ideas. Thus, there is an increment of RLE hours for the revised curriculum to 2142 for the entire program. In the same manner, R.A. 7164 was repealed wherein the policy on admission, selection and retention removed the “upper 40%” requirement (R.A. 9173).

Nonetheless, the College of Nursing continues it mandate for quality education. Thus, it is now pursuing its goal for a level II re-accreditation status from a private agency, Philippine Association of Colleges and Universities Commission on Accreditation (PACUCOA).
